One Month Mentor Program – Day 2 – Getting Your Website!

Day 2 – Moving Along the Path To Success

Today there are 8 videos to watch and another downloadable worksheet which I have printed out.

All the steps are easy to follow as before.

Here we are shown how to actually install our new blog! Very exciting. But I would like to point out that you cannot get immediate access to your Word Press blog. I installed mine about 6 hours ago and it is not up on the web yet. I checked with my host provider and found out that it can take between 24 and 48 hours though sometimes it is a bit quicker.

This is disappointing as I was fired up to go and finish the rest of the points on the list. I feel that this should be pointed out in the video to avoid frustration and so that the support desk doesn’t get flooded with emails asking about this.

Update: After having waited for 48 hours without being able to see my Word Press website I contacted my host provider – Host Gator – on their live chat. (I chose that as a support ticket can take up to 24 hours and I wanted immediate gratification! ) LOL. Apparently the wrong name servers were there, they told me how to correct and voila! It is up and running!!

I have watched all the videos and they are very interesting and informative but at the time of writing,  I haven’t carried out all the steps yet due to the above.

Update: Once my blog was on the internet I went back and watched the videos from Day 1 and Day 2 just to check I hadn’t missed anything.

One thing I like is at the bottom there is a link to go back and watch the previous day’s video so you don’t have to keep going backwards and forwards. This was useful as I needed to go back to Day 1 once I had got the blog up and running.

In one of the videos John shows us how to sign up for one of the leading affiliate marketing sites. I already have an account there so was able to skip this point.

He shows us how to log into our cPanel to able to set up our Word Press blog using Fantastico. However, recently a lot of blogs have been hacked so I have bought a plug in to avoid this called WP Ignition and WP Transform. (Click here for more information) Another thing, never have your user name as “Admin” nor anything else connected with your Word Press website as this seems to be an easy way to let those awful hackers in!

John mentions how to add links and categories. I would like to point out that since this course was produced there have been several updates to Word Press and the links category no longer exists. I contacted the support desk about this and again they got back to me very quickly. This is something that I had idea how to do (adding links) despite having several of my own blogs. Now I need to implement this useful knowledge on the other ones.

What I liked about one of his videos is seeing John getting a bit frustrated because it wasn’t working and you can even hear him sigh at one point! However, he showed us – step by step – what to do. Bear in mind that Word Press offers updates frequently and some things change.

I am learning so much and we are only on Day 2!

One thing I would like to point out is there is a lot involved especially if all this is new to you so please don’t worry if you can’t get it all done in one day. There is no hurry – just get to the end of the course.

Onto Day 3!!

One Month Mentor Program – Day One – Getting Started

Remember that you are not alone as John has a very good support desk to help you  if you ever get stuck or something is not clear.

You can also go to his One Mentor Blog for more help,

Day One.

This consists of 5 short videos to watch plus a downloadable worksheet of the tasks involved. I suggest you print it out so that you can have all your notes handy.

In this one John showed us how to get our own domain name email which was great as that was something I had wanted for my other blogs and had no idea how to go about it. I immediately tried with one of these names as I hadn’t decided on the name of my site yet. And it worked perfectly! The instructions given in the video were very clear and easy to follow step by step.

However, once I had decided on a name for my site – www.annjohnstonblog.com (as you can see above!) and had registered it I hit a snag with the own domain name email. I tried everything – I installed, uninstalled, did it automatically and manually but it didn’t work. I was trying for a couple of days and was getting really frustrated. Not a good start! However, I didn’t contact the support desk as it wasn’t John’s fault or problem so I kept trying.

Then I had a thought – perhaps it was because I hadn’t actually set up my website at this point. (We hadn’t got to that part yet and though I have set up some blogs previously I want to follow everything exactly as shown). So, I tried out with all my other blogs setting up own name emails, as instructed, and they all worked perfectly. I have decided to park this for the moment, until the blog is up and running rather than tear my hair out in frustration! I will come back later and keep you updated as I think this is something quite important.

Update:Once I had my blog up and running on the internet I was finally able to get my own name domain working. This is an important point to take into account should you encounter the same problem.

John recommends a hosting company but this time I didn’t follow this exactly as I already have one – Host Gator -which I have been using for some time and have had no problems up to date.

I did contact John’s support desk with another question I had and got the reply back in less than 24 hours so I can confirm that the support desk works too.

Onto Day 2!

Like me you may have tried a lot of other things but given up by the sheer volume of things to do and how long it all takes. But this is different, IMHO anybody can commit to an hour or so daily. I am not going to lie – some things take quite a bit of time and, if you are new at this, each task might take you longer than you thought. But please don’t give up – as John says it doesn’t matter how long it takes as long as you get to the end of the course. The long and winding road does come to an end sometime you know!

Sign up process.

Once you have joined the program you will get an email giving you your User ID and password and the link to where you can log in to the members area. Easy peasy!!

You will also get a link to be able to contact the support desk if necessary.

Now all you have to do is wait to get the first email – Day One of the One Month Mentor Progam!

It actually arrived shortly after the email with the details to be able to log into your dashboard for the One Month Mentor Program which is great as you won’t have too long to wait to get started.

So, let’s get going!

Shiny New Objects – Don’t We Just Love Them!!

I have a copy of Tiffany Lambert’s “Guide to Cashing in on Shiny New Object Syndrome” as, I tend to buy one thing after another! (Go on, ‘fess up – you do too!) So, I decided here to kill two birds with one stone – follow the daily training given by John and review his course as shown by Tiffany Lambert.

In her ebook, she tells us to be honest reviewers and if there is something we don’t like, to just say so! And of course, point out the good bits and what we have learnt – without giving out the exact details of course.

So that’s what I am going to do here.

John Thornhill’s One Month Mentor Program

one month mentor
Hi. As you can see my name is Ann Johnston and I have been trying to make some sort of living using the internet. I have set up several blogs using information that I found here and there using Google. I closely followed all the guidelines, set up my blogs and / a big fat nothing. Hardly any traffic, no subscribers so no $$$. It was all getting a bit disheartening. But, I refused to give up! I wanted to be part of the 1% of the marketers who actually succeed online.

A lot of the websites and blogs I visit recommend getting yourself a mentor but, being currently unemployed, my budget could not extend to the high cost involved so I continued “going it alone” - but still with no success.

Then I saw John Thornhill had a special offer for his “One Month Mentor” program and it was priced at something I could afford. And I thought – 31 days, I can manage that. According to the sales pages, you get a daily email telling you what to do every day for the 31 days. I liked that idea as, with other courses I have bought, you get all the information at once and it tends to be overwhelming – too much information overload.

I had heard of John Thornhill on various websites and all the reviewers gave him a thumbs up saying that he is a great mentor. There was nothing but praise for him, no negative reviews referrinng to him as a “guru” – something which most sales pages tend to use as a derogatory term, someone who takes your money and runs! He also offered support if we should ever get stuck or lost or just couldn’t figure something out.

So I bought it and I am now in the process of setting up this blog following his instructions step by step. I am trying to ignore all the things I have learnt up to date and will give you a report of how I am doing. I may not be able to do this every day as I would like as – this could be due to technical issues, my internet connection is pretty slow as I have a monthly allowance of XX bytes (I have no idea how many!) and when these run out, the connection is really slow and, of course, life sometimes gets in the way too !

:)

So, please come back here regularly to see how I am doing. I would love you to leave your comments letting me know how you are getting on if you have bought his course

.

It would be unethical of me to explain the exact steps but I will give you a general outline and tell you what works for me and how easy or difficult it was.

Let’s start!!
